What They’re Saying

MLS All Star manager Pablo Mastroeni (via Oregon Live): “I think at that time [I was playing], we were still playing East vs. West. There wasn’t really enough talent to make that game as exciting as it could potentially be today and moving forward. I think moving forward as this league continues to develop, I think there’s a [reason] to kind of reconsider that East vs. West. As you continue to get great talent coming in, [it would be a way] to showcase all of it in a way that’s ultra-competitive.”

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino (via MLS): “I watched the [All-Star] game [last year]. It was a very tough game for Bayern Munich. I think we need to understand that for the All-Stars it’s a very important game. For us it’s the same. We need to compete. For us, we expect a very tough game. But I think I would never deny a handshake to the opposing coach.”

Tactical Preview

Player to Watch: Given the U.S. men’s national team’s failure at the 2015 Gold Cup, it would behoove head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to focus on Sporting Kansas City’s Benny Feilhaber. In 19 appearances this season, the 30-year-old has seven goals, seven assists and an average of 2.2 key passes.

MLS’ Projected Lineup (4-2-3-1): Rimando; Beasley, Marshall, Besler, Beltran; McCarty, Feilhaber; Castillo, Dempsey, Zusi; Villa

Tottenham’s Projected Lineup (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Yedlin, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose; Carrol, Stambouli, Townsend, Winks, Eriksen; Kane
